Exploring Our Passions & Interests

For me, DIY projects around the house have always been a passion. I was not able to do as much as I wanted while working and raising children; but I did find time to put in solid, hardwood floors, upstairs and downstairs, moldings like chair railing and paint. As soon as I retired, I had a long list of projects that needed to be done that weren’t so visually rewarding and some projects that I had dreamed about for years like finally putting wainscoting up our stairs in our entry and upstairs hallway. I will include blog posts on this DIY and others in hopes you might find them helpful. I don’t think I ever did one project without scrolling Pinterest and listening to YouTube for hours. I am eternally grateful and feel the need to pay back.

I never thought I would say this; but after renovating our house for 10 months and a condominium for the last 6 months, I am burned out on renovation-style DIY. The kind of DIY where you stay covered in paint, caulk, wood and spackle dust 24×7; but I plan to do smaller, fun DIY projects and I am looking for your great ideas.

I am also passionate about gardening, cooking new, delicious and healthy meals, reading, learning new skills, and meaningful travel.

My husband’s passions and interests are mostly around art and music. If he’ll let me, I plan to share some of what he is up to.

I installed wainscoting and painted the railings myself. We had…

Updating Our Foyer With Painted Stair Railings

One of my retirement DIY projects for our 1996-built home was to update the foyer. The house has a two-story foyer which is such a great architectural feature. The stairway itself was dated with orange-colored oak railings and builder-grade, unfinished pine stairs that were carpeted. The dream was to replace the stair treads with a…
